Our August guest speaker, Butch Spyridon, president and CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau, will discuss how new developments in Music City’s hospitality industry can benefit your business and how you can profit from its growth.

A hospitality industry veteran, Spyridon has led the charge to broaden the image of Nashville as Music City, beginning the first-ever city-wide branding initiative in 2004. Since that time the CVB has found new and innovative ways to grow its sales and marketing efforts keeping Nashville in the Top 25 performing hotel markets nationwide.

Butch Spyridon has served as the CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau (NCVB) since 1991. Under his leadership Nashville’s hospitality industry has reached the $4.0 billion mark, becoming Music City’s second largest industry.

Spyridon began his career in 1979 at the Mobile Chamber of Commerce as Assistant Manager of the Travel and Convention Department and was later promoted to Manager. From 1985 – 1991, he served as Executive Director of the Baton Rouge Area Convention & Visitors Bureau before moving on to Music City.

Throughout his career Spyridon has served on the boards of Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) and Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA). Spyridon has received numerous awards and accolades including Nashville Sales Executive of the Year Award, the President’s Award from Meeting Professionals International, and the Stephen Foster Award from Nashville Songwriters Association International.

Spyridon serves on several civic boards including the Conservancy of the Parthenon and Centennial Park, and the Adventure Science Center. He also serves on industry related boards including the Nashville Hotel and Lodging Association, the Downtown Partnership, the Music City Bowl, the Museum of African American Music Art and Culture.

In recent years Spyridon has led the charge to broaden the image of Nashville as Music City, which began with the first-ever city-wide branding initiative in 2004. Since that time the CVB has found new and innovative ways to grow sales and marketing efforts. Highlights over the past five years include adding sales staff in 3 other cities, creating and growing city-wide events, forming numerous strategic partnerships and producing a monthly show for Sirius XM Radio featuring Nashville songwriters. These endeavors have helped keep Nashville in the top 25 hotel markets nationwide.

Our luncheons are always a great place to meet like minded women business owners. Learning, networking and growing your business is what we are all about. Check it out for yourself and register now!

Members and guests of the NAWBO July luncheon will be given information on developing a personal brand that will add to their bottom line, increase their referrals from clients and other professionals, and improve the quality of their careers and personal lives. Attendees will leave the presentation better prepared for today’s competitive environment, resulting in greater revenue and profitability.

Join us and learn the basics of personal branding, be given the steps to creating their own personal brand, and understand the idea that it needs to complement their professional or corporate brand. Mila will discuss the importance of first impressions being more important than resumes or experience, and how image plays an integral role while giving practical examples of professional fashion that is universally flattering.

Mila will discuss the idea that understanding your personal style will give you a tremendous advantage in building the right brand and first impression – this in turn gives you an advantage in creating a trusted relationship with your clients and future clients. The potential success for each day begins in the closet – what you decide to wear on a daily basis will dictate the tone of the day. When we look good we feel good, when we feel good we tend to reach further for our goals and accomplish more on that day.

We are looking forward to seeing you for some great networking and great learning this hot summer day. Maggiano’s is cool and welcoming inside – with delicious food and great service. Bring plenty of business cards and let’s do lunch – NAWBO style!

The Nashville NAWBO June 24, 2010 luncheon was a very inspiring day for me personally and for everyone I spoke with at the luncheon. Many of us, as business owners, think about the day we can give back to the community in some way (if we are not already doing so). Ginger Manley, a former Nashville business owner and creator of The Nurses Apron Partnership, did just that – and it all started from inheriting a bunch of aprons. Ginger took these aprons and gathered together an impressive group of women to write stories about their lives – collected into a wonderful book called “Gotcha Covered: A Legacy of Service and Protection”. The proceeds from this book go to help a non-profit, micro-credit organization called Burning Bush, created by Poppy Buchanan, that provides support to nurses in Kenya.

Please check out the Nurses Apron Partnership website and learn more about this awesome group – we were fascinated with how Ginger was able to take a chance encounter with something as basic as an apron and bring it together with an incredible group halfway around the world to help those who are trying to make a difference in the lives of women and children.

Nashville NAWBO strives to bring together successful women in business so we can share our knowledge, grow our businesses and grow ourselves. This lunch did all of that – and we hope you can join us at the next one!

We had a great crowd for this luncheon (held at Maggiano’s Little Italy the last Thursday of each month):
